Time for the Sea at School too

The “We who always navigate... from the Mediterranean to the Oceans” Project introduces navigation strategies into didactics, from working tools to the philosophy of exploration and discovery. The objective is to overcome boundaries and meet new worlds. Five schools from Liguria in north-western Italy are successfully implementing a cooperative learning experience. They have designed and created an intercultural website to develop values and important skills or habits to live in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural society. The site presents a vast range of interdisciplinary resources, documents, images, texts and games produced by the children.

The protagonists of this experience are the schools of Arenzano, Loano, Borghetto S. Spirito, Imperia and Pieve di Teco in Liguria.

Work on the project began during the 2003-2004 school year with the “There's a dolphin on the ... net! Collaborative project created on-line by various school groups. This experience was continued the following year under the title Navigators, pirates, bucaneers, brigands … we keep on navigating”. The “We who always navigate... from the Mediterranean to the Oceans” Project reached the finals during the last edition of the international Global Junior Challenge competition.
